IFIP attend the G20 Ministerial Meeting, Fortaleza, Brazil

Published on October 30, 2024

Historic day for all members of the IFIP

Daniel Sobel and James Blomfield were honoured to present the voices of inclusion practitioners from around the world
at the #G20 Ministerial Meeting in Fortaleza this week. The G20 is being hosted at the Centro de Eventos do Ceará (CEC), a massive complex.

Specifically Daniel and James took recommendations from the IFIP G20 Inclusion Summit on 24th & 25th October that took place in the Assembleia Legislativa do Estado de São Paulo.

The summit showcased the region's commitment to inclusive education and the remarkable progress made in implementing inclusive practices. This is a moment for the region to stand proud on the global stage, demonstrating its leadership in advancing inclusive education for all.

Daniel and James were invited to talk with the National Director for Inclusion in Brazil at the G20, Mr Mapurunga. They also met the South African delegation to the G20 who are hosting the event next year.

About the #G20:
The Group of Twenty is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. It brings together the world's major economies to address critical global issues, including economic growth, financial stability, climate change, and sustainable development. The G20 represents approximately 80% of the world's GDP and two-thirds of its population, making it a powerful platform for international cooperation and policy coordination.

The IFIP G20 Inclusion Summit recognises the critical need to empower inclusion practitioners in Central and South America to share their knowledge, collaborate on solutions, and advocate for change.

This IFIP G20 Inclusion Summit was inspired by the Global Inclusive Schools' Forum (GISF) at UNESCO HQ, Paris, which was co-hosted by UNESCO and the IFIP in March 2024. We raised 5 key questions which we have continued to discuss in our IFIP Think Tanks and our findings have and will be given to ministries of education in the shape of policy advice.

Thanks to all IFIP members around the world for supporting and making your voices heard. 🙌🏻

Massive thanks to everyone who has helped, particularly TAL Education Group and Texthelp
