Approved Fellows may send one-to-one messages and, as we introduce community groups, participate in Fellowship community chats (including a shared Announcements group). Message content, sender and recipient identifiers, timestamps, delivery and read status, optional reactions, and (where used) abuse reports are stored in our Firebase/Firestore systems. These messages are not end-to-end encrypted. People in a conversation can read it. IFIP systems (including our cloud functions and authorised operators using administrative tools) can access message content where needed to operate, secure, and support the service. If you turn on email notifications, a preview of a new message may be sent to your email. If you report a message, the report and relevant content may be sent to fellowship@ifip.group.
The Fellowship community has community administrators (appointed via the staff portal by the community owner) and each group has its own group administrators. Community administrators can see every group in the community, including hidden groups and groups they have not joined, and may open those conversations to administer the community. Group administrators only administer groups they have been given that role in. Hidden groups are not listed to other Fellows who are not members. You cannot leave Announcements; you may leave other groups. Turning off Allow messages stops one-to-one chat and being added to groups other than Announcements; you remain in the community and still receive Announcements. Lawful Basis for Processing: Performance of a Contract (delivering membership communications) and Legitimate Interests (operating a professional community, safety, and abuse handling).

- Fellows' Messages: message content and related metadata are retained for the lifespan of the relevant conversation while your fellowship remains active, and may be retained as long as needed to handle reports, security, or legal obligations. Turning off Allow messages does not by itself delete history.
